Is Harry Potter the new Batman?
http://harry-potter-6–
very dark. almost The Dark Knight kinda dark. Comes out this November.
Of course the book was the most disturbing of the series. See HP6
Compare and contrast: The Joker and Voldemort.
TDK the movie is 3.5 hours. Reading HP6 took what? twice that? Maybe 3x.
TDK is now receiving more repeat viewings than any movie since Titanic. TDK is also on track to out-gross Titanic as the #1 all-time box office draw.
For Titanic, the repeat viewers were teenage girls. For TDK, they are all ages.
PG13 across all ages.
Christopher Nolan interpreting Frank Miller interpreting Bob Kane interpreting all our childhoods.
Christopher and his co-author brother Jonathan Nolan are the new Wachowski brothers. Memento was their first Matrix film except more cyber dude.
To the extent that cinema explores the human condition, TDK impressed me more than any film since Clockwork Orange .The Nolans are the new Kubrick plus they write their own works.
Contrastingly, I was unprepared for how taken I was with Wall*E. I was so not going to see this film. I was anti-disney. And then the reviews came in universally saying go see this film.
This is the best transplanetary science fiction love story since Stranger in a Strange Land. I remember thinking how much the kids would love this. so glad you took them to see it. just imagine, a feature length film and the only dialog is WALL*E EVAH. And the kids turn that into a whole new meme.
Tyler told me about your time at the mall. I applaud you for the stance you took.
We live in a time when touching or taking a picture of a child in public makes you suspicious.
I remember as a child throwing a 3-day nonstop kicking and screaming all out protest breakdown because my parents did not understand me.
When it was over they still did not understand me but I was ok with that now. I was grown up.
Childhood is all about discovering how you become powerful enough to be an adult.
How from his trauma Bruce Wayne becomes The Batman becomes The Dark Knight.
How 1968 becomes 2008. Camp becomes Noir. Bob Kane becomes Christopher Nolan.
POW! KA-BOOM! OMG! WTF!
